VIRGINIA MAGISTRATES ASSOCIATION

UP-DATE March 23, 2012

TO ALL VIRGINIA MAGISTRATES:

VMA Members,

At the time of this writing, Rick and I have been placed into the office of First Vice-President and Second Vice-President for the VMA Executive Board. We do not know how any pending litigation will effect our positions on the Board. However, as a current members of the Board, we would like to make a brief statement. Please rest assured that the officers currently on the Board are still actively working to represent all members of the VMA. Without a question, the current litigation has served as a barrier to our plans for making the VMA a better advocate for each of you, and the entire magistrate system. However, we have continued to formulate plans, and have begun to act in many ways on behalf of the membership. We continue to reach out to individual members, and your elected regional representatives to gain insight to issues that are important to the membership throughout the state. As we acquire this information, our full intent is to work on the issues seen as most important to our members. We continue to strive to make the VMA seen as a professional organization that is willing to work with all levels of state government to ensure that issues important to magistrates are discussed, and meaningful solutions are enacted.
The Board is not dysfunctional, but surely is not operating at the full potential that we had hoped would be occurring by this time of the year. The pending litigation has certainly had a negative effect on the boards effectiveness, but has not completely brought the efforts of its' members to a complete standstill. We will continue to work for each of you as hard and effectively as possible. This is why each person on the board has volunteered to be placed in office, and we will continue to do whatever we can at this time, and certainly as we move forward.

Thank you for taking time to hear from us!

Sincerely,

Wayne Frye, First Vice-President
VMA Executive Board

Rick Nagel, Second Vice-President
VMA Executive Board
