President’s Page
By MICHAEL WESSEL
Greetings to
all the members of the Virginia Magistrates Association, Inc.
This is my
second “Presidents Column”, so I will have to ask that you all bear with
me, as I’m trying to still sort this all out. I believe there are several
things that need covering and the first thing is; If you have sent me a
letter or e-mail or some other type of correspondence, and I haven’t
responded yet, don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you.
Secondly,
the CDC met on October 11, 2003 at the Office of the Executive Secretary
in Richmond and things turned out there pretty much like we thought they
would. I think that Richard D. Cox will cover most of the changes later
in this issue. As most of you know, Richard is the Legislative Liaison
for the Board of the VMA, Inc. He was also my recommendation to the
Executive Secretary for appointment to the Magistrates Advisory Committee
of the CDC. Richard has done an exceptional job in this capacity. He has
maintained contact with our Lobbyist, David Bailey Associates, as well as
the other members of the MAC/CDC; Chief Magistrates Phyllis Wong and
Cheryl Thompson.
On to other
matters. This coming year, 2004, we will be electing our Regional Board
Members from the six regions. We need to get a jump on this now. As the
Past-President, Rosemary R. Harris is the Chairperson of the Nominating
Committee for the elections. If you are not interested in running for one
of the positions, but would like to help Rosemary by serving on the
Nominating Committee, (Which consists of the Past President, one Regional
Board member and three Association Members) please contact Rosemary by
e-mail at:
